well, 'Dorian' is the alias my grandmother used to paint under (her name was Doris Nielsen...she went by dori as a nickname and then just started signing her paintings DORIaN). since she is credited for getting me into painting and drawing, i took the name. (by and by, my avatar is one of my paintings).
the Scarlotte wasn't quite as deep though. i love both the names Scarlet and Charlotte and when a browser wouldn't let me take either, i combined the two. luckily, since my screename is so unique, i never have a problem using it where ever i go without being tagged with a number at the end.

My name came from when I saw a Bojangles restaraunt. For some reason that name made me laugh. As for the Colonel part...hmmm...I'll get back to you on that one.

Mine came from a vocab word in high school that I had to memorize and I thought it sounded cool. Ive used it to sign up for internet things since then. Means "being in a sleepwalking like state" or something like that.

Coming back from Europe for the first time, I wanted to share the excitement with everyone. You don't even know !
I knew that most people that would eventually hit this site would be of the younger generation (mostly college age, give or take). I had narrowed it down to a couple of names that would appeal to the younger generation, because all the others that I had entered into the domain registries (tons) were taken- (guess that was a good thing !).
Originally, I thought that this name would be too obnoxious, but after asking a couple of friends what they thought about my selections, and which one I should go with, they liked this one the best.
'Nuff said.

Well... I'm not super creative, and as Florencia is always taken I put 9699 ('96 and '99: really two good years in my life since I got to live abroad, first Syria and later the US)-
But about 5 minutes after I had loggind in I realized that miraculously Florencia wasn't taken here... go figure

wow, thanks briley. i actually don't paint anymore. since i move around so much, i don't really keep much in the way of art supplies. not to mention, i think that photography is more my thing. i actually never thought that that painting was very good. i painted it when i was pretty down about something a few years ago and have liked it myself just because of that. i always thought it looked like a kid did it. when i first joined travelpunk, i was at another down part of my life and i choose that to be my avatar to reflect my state of being. my state of being is quite different now, but anthon said i can't change it, because people recognize me by it. he's right. so there it is.

Well, mine's based on my Iranian-Japanese heritage... My real name's Omid, but for my stage name, I use the Japanese equivalent, Omi, and tag on the "San" - there's a character by the same name in the book/miniseries Shogun, I believe. My mom was actually going to make me a t-shirt that had the Kanji characters for my first club gig but I thought that might make me look like even more of a tool. Her heart was in the right place, I guess.

Back in high school there was this "contest" that the student government did to raise money called the "king crazy legs" contest. Basicly, they took photos of 5 or 6 unwilling guys legs and put them out on display not telling anyone whose they were. People would then vote on them and had to pay 0.25 each vote.
Every year they always put my legs in the contest because I had long, very white, very hairy legs. Well, every year I won by a very large margine. Being the person who one they would then announce that they were in fact my legs and I would be crowned "king crazy legs" for a week and would have to were shorts (I went to a private school with uniforms, so that was supposed to be a perk) and where a crown and someone would carry my books around and all that jazz.
Anyhow, I was very embarassed about the whole thing and kinda felt self-conscience about my legs. All my mates on my soccer team even called me Yeti because of my long hairy white legs........ANYHOW I grew up and grew out of feeling akward. A few years ago I was working as a Youth Director at a church and I was talking to the teens during a sleep-over; the topic was self-image and I told them my "king crazy legs" story and how I used to feel so embarassed but how now really like my legs and all. Later that night they got on my PC and created me a AIM screenname so they could all chat with me - and my internet name was born (and I felt it was quite fitting)
thats my story

Hmmm dunno how I came up with my name, it just popped into my head one day.
Maybe my sub-conscious is trying to tell me something - to become an assassin.... and a funky one at that :greenguy:

Verstehen: It's German for "understand"
It is at the same time the quest of my life, and a directive to others.
On other boards/systems it is alternately verstehen_alles meaning "understand all" or "understand everything"
King Crazy Legs: I've recently been given the moniker "Crazy legs" here in Peace Corps Morocco. Though my story is a bit different: Specifically my tendency to kick people, destroy potted plants, and launch the sack in to a tray containing delicate tea-glasses while nearly throwing myself off a 2nd story balcony, all in the quest to complete the hack in a haki-sack game.
Needless to say, I am now given a wide berth whenever we play.
