Where to go for New Year's Eve???

I am one of those airline brats and have the luxury of flying for free, and I have a nice little break over the holidays from law school and want to get away somewhere fun for new years. I was just wondering where is the most fun place to go. (keep in mind, I very much enjoy drinking ALOT, and staying out till all hours and meeting people) Preferably I would like to go somewhere in Europe for simple flying time, but if anywhere else is fun like in South America, I would be up for somethin like that. Let me know, and THANKS!!

i think prague london paris berlin are the hotspots in europe for new years not sure id also like to know?
 
Helsinki, Finland was a lot of fun New Year's Eve this past year...that's the only place other than the US/Canada I've spent New Year's.
 
Bangkok has the most crazy backpacker crowd for new year's eve ! I doubt there is a bigger bakcpacker meeting anywhere else in the world. :thumbup:

Damn I was just in Bangkok about 5 weeks ago! It was about the coolest place I've ever been, and I wasn't even there for the full moon party!! But I don't feel like making the long flight, tryin to find somethin closer.
 
I'm off to Belgrade for New Year's Eve, it's great for partying and the Serbs are very friendly people.
 
I am now recently thinking about heading to Budapest and then up to Poland because I have friends there. What do you guys know or think of Budapest for New Year's, from what I've been reading it seems pretty fun.???
 
hogmanay or 'snogmanay' for those that know is about the biggest knees up for new years in western europe, prague would also be a goer, london is only good if you know someone who is throwing the party, public events have a nasty habit of going flop. Paris was interesting, very cold but the lights were cool, forget getting home on the trains tho, bit of a crushing experience that.
the best new years is anywhere you are with a few good mates, music and mountains of .....(insert drug of choice here) :kisscheek:
 
Edinburgh. HOGMANNY! Google it. Basically an enormous street party in central edinburgh, which is a fantastic old place in its own right. It's dark, and gloomy, and full of churchyards, and, shit, its even got a gothic castle on a hill that dominates everything.

I was in London for NYE once, too. Unless you get a ticket for one of the good clubs (they sell out fast) or make friends with someone who's going to a houseparty, london is pretty closed. They do fireworks over the Thames, and a countdown in Piccadilly Circus (its mad, full of people laughing and drinking and smooching) but really, really, Edinburgh would catch my fancy before london.
 
Well if you like drinking allot then Galway in Ireland always has to be near the top of the list. We probably wouldn't have big street events like in other citys but drinking on the street is common anyway because of the smoking ban and your never really more than two doors away from a pub.
 
Eric, I wasn't in Budapest for New Year but I had a blast with backpackers there anyway!

I'm in Budapest right now. It's a great big city with loads to do. There is a 50 year celebration of the revolution against communism on Monday, so I will let you know how they handle huge parties. Actually, the locals are a bit worried it will get out of control because of the protesting going on right now. Some have even started referring to it as the riot celebration. I'm pretty sure the cops are ready though.

Back on point. I will be in Berlin, with Ted, for New Years because Berlin is just a huge party city, plain and simple.
 
I would say go to scotland, apperently those fuckers party new years like hardcores! I think smeone else mensioned it hogmany or what its called, its supposed to be one of the biggest parties in the world. I dont know where in the country it is you would have to look into it!
